Celtic music festival coming to Puerto Vallarta next year

Puerto Vallarta will host the first International Celtic Music Festival of Mexico from March 20 to 22, 2014.

The program will include pipe band parades, free open air concerts, as well as special concerts with admission charges, a traditional Scottish Ceilidh (with Scottish country dancing) and a “Drumming for Drinks” competition.

There will also be a concert featuring the Saint Patrick’s Battalion Pipes and Drums from Mexico City, accompanied by Mexican Celtic music performers Ogham Ensemble, the Bradigan Irish Dance School and the Spanish Pipes of the Asociación de Cultura de Galicia de México.

Performers already confirmed include Alba’s Edge from Boston, with their unique Scottish Latin Jazz music.

Distinguished pipers Bruce Gandy and Rory Grossart will give a recital and conduct a master class. Chrissy Crowley, a talented young fiddler from Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, will lead sessions at the festival’s official bar.

And internationally acclaimed Scottish tenor Jamie MacDougall will give a performance, accompanied by pianist Michael Barnett and the Puerto Vallarta School Orchestra.
