Trivia tournament

If you’ve ever been called a “know-it-all,” here’s a chance to prove that you do know it all!  A charity team trivia tournament to benefit the Bahia de Banderas Woman’s Shelter is set for Sunday, March 10, at the Bucerias Art Walk Plaza (Lazaro Cardenas 62). Get together a team of six and join in for an evening of “pizza and pondering,” say organizers. The doors open at 5 p.m. and the tournament starts at 6 p.m.

If you don’t have a team, don’t worry, you can be placed with one.

Teams of six can pay 500 pesos to register in advance or 600 pesos at the door. Singles can pre-register for 100 pesos or pay 150 pesos at the door.

All of the registration money, as well as the profit from the sales of pizza and beverages, will help fund the continuing construction of the shelter.

Drop off your registration and payment at A Broken Art, which is located in the Art Walk Plaza. Tables are limited.

An artist’s paradise

If you’re an artist in the northshore area, here’s some news that should get your creative juices flowing. Architect Lupe Dipp is offering the use of her beautiful resort, Los Arroyos Verdes, to any budding or experienced artist, of any genre, that would like to take inspiration from the resort’s gardens and plants, water features and vegetation that make this a green and wonderful venue.

“This is not a tutorial. It is a place for artists to come, relax, paint or sculpt, as you see fit, says Dipp.

You’re invited to bring your materials and “create” to your heart’s content, on Thursdays, starting at 9 a.m. and stay throughout the day.

There is no charge. Artists will be able to choose their space to work and that’s all there is to it.

Dipp says her goal is to “bring art together with nature, just for the joy of it.”

Artists can bring a picnic or, of course, buy meals and drinks at Los Arroyos Verdes’ Bambu Organic Restaurant, which will be open for breakfast starting at 9 a.m., and lunch, from noon to 5 p.m.

Los Arroyos Verde is located just outside of Bucerias on the highway to Valle de Banderas.

Successful R&R

The Rhythm ‘N Ribs team says this year’s primary Manos de Amor fundraiser not only reached its goal, but raised more money than last year.

Anne Milling, a volunteer and member of the steering committee for the children’s shelter in Bucerias, who organized the event, described it as “a magical evening held in our town square with delicious food, drinks, great entertainment and a very successful silent auction.

“We want to thank the restaurants, individual and group food providers, the artists and over 70 volunteers who helped make it possible,” she said.

Milling said money from this year’s Hamburger Fest fundraiser, last year’s Rhythm ‘N Ribs, private contributions and eSun Solar Energy’s donation have turned the Casa Hogar “green,”  providing a new solar electric system designed to reduce the shelter’s electricity expenses.

There are currently 30 children housed at Manos de Amor.

“The shelter survives solely on contributions, so this money will keep us going another year and hopefully we will be able to raise more funds soon for a new boys’ dorm and bathroom. We have to expand because we have 18 boys aged from 3 to 12,” Milling said.

Chili time

The third annual Bucerias Chili Cookoff is set to take place on Thursday, March 21 at the Art Walk Plaza (Lazaro Cardenas 62) on Thursday, March 21.

The popular event runs from 4-7 p.m. and will also feature live music. Cookoff organizers are calling all chili culinary experts to register now so they can be sure to have enough space.  If enough cooks register, the event will be moved to a larger venue.

Organizers say if you think your chili has the “right stuff,” now is time to step up to the plate.

The tables, cups, utensils and napkins are supplied. All you have to bring is your own version of chili.

All proceeds benefit the Biblioteca Rey Nayar, also known as the Bucerias Children’s Library.

There is very limited space off-street this year, so if you need more information or to register, go to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. .
