Rotary grant lays foundation for safe Jalisco schools & communities

A generous grant of US$47,000 from the Rotary Foundation will be used by Satellite Rotary E-Club – sponsored by the Rotary Club of Ajijic – over 18 months to kick off a major anti-violence education and conflict resolution project to support the Humane Education Alliance.

The initiative will build on a national plea to reduce violence in Mexican public schools by introducing an effective curriculum, training existing teachers to implement it on their own, and including anti-violence and anti-bullying in the pre-service training of new teachers.

Although there are federal outlines of a curriculum for teachers to handle violence and bullying, and there are private schools that train teachers in conflict resolution, no money has been allocated for the curriculum or training of teachers in public schools.
