US actor Danny Glover in town for movie shoot

Actor Danny Glover has hit town to feature in “Mr. Pig,” an English-language road movie directed by Diego Luna that starts production in Jalisco this week.

According to Variety magazine, “Mr. Pig” revolves around a farm-worker (Glover) who travels from the United States to Mexico, accompanied by a pig.  The light comedy also stars Saturday Night Live’s Maya Rudolph.

This is Luna’s third film as a director, following on from “Abel” and “Cesar Chavez,” both critically well received.

According to several sources, “Mr. Pig” is being part financed by the Jalisco Film Commission to the tune of 13 million pesos, although Luna insists he  has not been involved in these negotiations.

A group of some 300 local movie makers took out a newspaper advertisement recently criticizing the state government for not supporting home-grown productions.

Variety says the film is produced by Canana, the Mexico City/Los Angeles production house Luna founded with Gael Garcia Bernal.
