The free classical music series Martes de Musica y Opera continues through October at the Teatro Alarife Martin Casillas. No tickets are sold, just turn up.  October 20: Concierto a Piano Solo with Jose Luis Altamirano (piano). October 27: Opera, Mexico y el Mundo with Mauro Calderon (tenor). Viviana Baez (soprano) and Aldo Delgadillo (organ).

Alan Parsons Live Project 

A giant of the music industry, British-born audio engineer, songwriter, musician and record producer brings his Greatest Hits Tour to town. Perhaps best known for engineering the classic Pink Floyd album “The Dark Side of the Moon,” Parsons also had a number of important hits, including “Games People Play.”

The 18th Festival Internacional de Danza Contemporánea Onésimo González kicks off next week with two shows: “Touching Time” by the Shin Eunju Dance Company from South Korea on October 23 and “Ballenas, historias de Gigantes,” by Larumbe Danza (Spain) on October 25.

Blue Man Group

High-tech vaudeville, performance art group has blossomed into an international organization with 60 “blue men” in the troupe.  Addictive viewing, just to see what novelties they will come up with next. Eight shows are scheduled over five days.

Mexican-American singer and humanitarian presents her latest studio work: “Balas y Chocolate,” a homage to the Mexican festival of Day of the Dead. 

Born and raised in Oaxaca, Downs’ career has been is influenced by musical legends such as Chavela Vargas, Mercedes Sosa and Lucha Villa.  Performing her own compositions, as well as traditional and popular Mexican music, she incorporates indigenous Mexican influences into her performances, often singing in native languages and using authentic costumes. 

Has won a Grammy and two Latin Grammy awards.
