Northern Lights Festival in GDL

This year’s Northern Lights Festival de Febrero has branched out to include concerts in two venues in the Guadalajara area — the spectacular new PALCCO complex on the city’s north side and the centrally located Teatro Alarife Martin Casillas.

Tuesday, February 23  Teatro Alarife Martin Casillas, 8 p.m. Australian-born pianist David Fung and the accomplished, dynamic violinist Grace Park collaborate in this free concert.

Wednesday, February 24  PALCCO Salon Rolon, 8 p.m. “Resonancia” with electric violinist Tracy Silverman. Silverman does a genre-blending solo concert including music by John Adams, Bach, Gershwin, Jimi Hendrix and Stevie Wonder, all undergirded with electronics and live loop recording.

Friday, February 26  PALCCO Salon Rolon, 8 p.m. “Dialogues” with cellist Brian Noyes and violinist Ben Bowman. The two string musicians present duets by Cirri, Martinů and Kodály.

Sunday, February 28  PALCCO Salon Rolon, 6 p.m. “From Russia with Love.” Mark Skazinetsy directs the entire Festival Orchestra with Australian born David Fung on piano. The concert includes Shostakovich’s Piano Concerto No. 1 with strings and trumpet and Tchaikovsky’s Serenade for Strings.

Tuesday, March 1  Teatro Alarife Martin Casillas, 8 p.m. “Improbable Best Friends.” The Manhattan Chamber Players perform a free concert of three works by Brahms and three by Dvorak.

Wednesday, March 2  PALCCO, Salon Rolon, 8 p.m. “Broken Hearts and Mad Men.” Singer Patricia O’Callaghan and the Gryphon Trio blend classical music with popular songs from around the world.

Concerts in Teatro Alarife Martin Casillas are free. Those at PALCCO cost 150 to 200 pesos with tickets available at the box office of this large complex before performances.
