‘Legacy Artists’ to hold anniversary exhibit

A 60-year retrospective of artwork produced by young artists who have received training in the Lake Chapala Society Children’s Art Program will open with a reception on Sunday, October 26, 3 to 6 p.m. at the Ajijic Cultural Center on the north side of the plaza.

Travel writer Neill James began a program to tutor local children in 1954 and rewarded their hard work by also allowing them to paint and draw. The careers of many of Ajijic’s adult artists started in those long-ago classes.

Lizz and Judy Boyd, daughters of long-time Children’s Art Program volunteer Mildred Boyd, have loaned their collection of children’s art created over the past seven decades to be displayed in the show.

More than a dozen of the “Legacy Artists,” including Javier Zaragoza, Antonio Lopez Vega, Juan Navarro, Victor Romero and Jesus Lopez Vega will be hanging a retrospective of their own works, as well as displaying and selling current pieces.
