Just as they did several years ago before their tour to Canada, Los Cantantes del Lago will host a tamale party to raise funds to help with the expenses on their upcoming trip to Cuba.
The event is scheduled Tuesday, April 5, 4-7 p.m. in San Juan Cosala at the residence of Kathleen and Vern Carlson (address upon reservations). All service will be provided by the choir’s scholarship recipients.
The evening will begin with chips and the family salsas of the Mexican members. A cash bar will serve margaritas, beer, wine, agua fresca and sodas.
Amaranta Santos will introduce the tamale course with a brief history and explanation of how they are made. Guests will have a variety to choose from and the salsas will still be available to garnish. Capirotada (a delightfully delicious Mexican version of bread pudding) is the evening’s sweet finish.
A magical part of the event will see younger members of the choir singing and playing a mini concert.
Also eagerly anticipated will be an auction of a spectacular Asian barbecue dinner or Chinese dinner banquet for ten people prepared by Linda Buckthorp in her home. This evening will feature a ten-course to-die-for dinner with black-tie service provided by Los Cantantes Maestro Timothy G. Ruff Welch, who will also play and sing his delightful Moonlight Set on his grand piano, “Lola.”
All the proceeds from this dinner will go directly to the tour scholarships since Buckthorp is graciously donating all the expenses. Private bidding will be allowed for those who cannot attend the tamale party, with a minimum starting bid of 20,000 pesos.
