Concert and Art Sale
A special concert and art sale begins at the Ajijic tea house, Te Para Dos, Saturday, June 7, 7:30 p.m.
Sisters Diana and Belén Pérez will be singing in concert, and the invited musician is Jorge González Servin.
Paintings and drawings by the graduates of the Instituto Internacional and by artist Eva Pelayo will be available for purchase during the evening. A raffle drawing will determine the winner of a 500-peso gift certificate to be redeemed at Tango in Ajijic.
The event has been planned to help Diana and Annai to achieve their goal. Te Para Dos is at Encarnacion Rosas 282 (near Min Wah Chinese restaurant) in Ajijic.
Jazz Duet at La Rueda
Jazz duo Marie Claire Figadere and Juan Carlos Castañón will be performing Saturday, June 7, at 8 p.m. in San Juan Cosala’s coffee house and gallery La Rueda. There is a 40-peso cover.
Art Show Opening
A major art show, “40 Artists from Zacatecas,” will open with a cocktail reception on Friday, June 13, 8 p.m. at the Casa de Cultura in Jocotepec. The show is presented by the Dirección de Arte, Cultura y Tradición del Municipio de Jocotepec in coordination with Vetagráfica and the help of Coxala Gráfica and Transcultural Matrix Project
There is no entrance fee for the show opening that will feature live music. The art will remain in the Casa de Cultura until July 9.
Piano Rojo
Straight from the acclaim of Puerto Vallarta audiences, a talented trio is taking the weekend stage at El Piano Rojo. After pleasing beach-going crowds for the last year, these superb musicians will perform at 7 p.m. on June 13, 14, and 15. The cover is 150 pesos.
Beatta Stankiewicz is a classically trained operatic soprano and accomplished flutist. She has worked in the Philharmonic Orchestra and Music Theatre in Lodz, Poland, and performed around the world, including in South Korea, Jordan, Italy, and United Emirates.
Oaxacan Eduardo Leon is one of Mexico’s premier classical guitarists. He has added the magic of his playing to performances of the AfroCuban Ensemble in Oaxaca.
Carlos Mancilla Garcia from Autlan de Navarro, Jalisco, adds the flair of his expert percussion experience to this group’s wide variety of musical styles. He traveled Spain and France with Mexico’s National Dance and Music Folk Company.

Recital
The Centro Cultural Gonzalez Gallo presents a classical “baroque” recital featuring three top-class performers on Thursday, June 19, 7 p.m.
Playing will be flutist Eduardo Arambula, cellist Areli Medeles and harpsichordist Hans Peter.
The cost of entry is 50 pesos. All are welcome.

Jocotepec Film Festival
The movies of famed Mexican director Guillermo del Toro continue to be screened at the Casa de Cultura in Jocotopec.
“Mimic” is the next del Toro film shown Wednesday, June 18, 8:30 p.m. The final film in the series, “El Labertino de Fauno,” is scheduled Wednesday, June 15, 8:30 p.m.
There is no entrance fee. The series of films is sponsored by the Direccion Municipal de Arte, Cultura y Tradicion de Jocotepec.
World Music Day
Now celebrated simultaneously in more than 400 locations around the globe, World Music Day 2014 is making a June 21 appearance at Lake Chapala for the first time in the 32-year history of the event.
The concept of a fiesta of music by the musicians for the people started in Paris in 1982. The local event is being hosted by Gabriela Martinez de Santiago and co-sponsored by El Risco and the Hotel Real de Chapala.
Two sessions of free music are planned at lakeside. Appearing in the event will be Daniel Cordero, The Beyonds, Black Swan with Diamonds, Ivan Olivares, Ulises Salazar, Sol y Luna, Ricardo y Blanca, and Robert Cerda. The afternoon event will be held from noon to 8 p.m. at El Risco at Carretera Oriente 645 just east of San Juan Cosalá. Then, from 8 p.m. to midnight, the action moves to the Maria Felix Bar in the Hotel Real de Chapala in La Floresta.
Number Four
Number Four Restaurant presents Saul Milton and Mark – cool, relaxed retro jazz with Kimmie on vocals – on Friday and Saturday evenings, from 8 p.m.
Sundays feature the Noe and Paco guitar duo playing romantic boleros.
Chef Gregory Couillard cooks on Fridays from 6-11 p.m. and Saturdays from 2-11 p.m., and presents his popular three-course, prix fixe meal, from 2-8 p.m. on Sundays.
Number Four is at Donato Guerra 4, Ajijic; telephone (376) 766-1360. Currently closed Monday to Thursday. The restaurant will soon be moving to a new lakeside location, the owners have announced.
Live jazz
Hacienda del Lago offers live jazz on Thursday evenings, with the first set starting at 7 p.m. There is no cover, and a three-course gourmet dinner, with drink specials, is available.
Also, don’t forget Hacienda del Lago’s Sunday popular brunch from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
