December’s Days of Light & Love

November is not quite over; the Thanksgiving leftovers are still in the refrigerator and the fiesta for Ajijic’s patron saint, San Andres, is building to the Monday, November 30 blow- out conclusion.

By the time that last cohete sputters, sizzles and soars into the night sky we’ll be on a slippery slope leading straight through a series of celebrations of love and of light and straight into the new year. 

Every month in Mexico is studded with an array of celebrations. But nothing can compare with December when as the days grow shorter, the weeks grow fuller of with concerts, parties and services until it feels as if we are rushing through the month with barely enough time for a nod at the array of light-filled holidays representing all of our various cultures. It starts with Advent on “December Eve.”
