Super Bowl Sunday
The American Society of Jalisco (AmSoc) is holding a Super Bowl Party on Sunday, February 3, from 3 p.m.

A donation of 60 pesos will get you a bowl of chili and a seat to watch the Baltimore Ravens take on  the San Francisco 49ers in the biggest football game of the year. There will also be a cash bar.
AmSoc is also hosting Academy Award preview nights on Sunday, February 10 and 17, before the big Oscar Party on Sunday, February 24.

Electronics recycling
Jalisco’s Third Intermunicipal Campaign for the Collection and Recycling of Electronic Waste 2013 begins next week.
From February 4 to 23, 50 Jalisco municipalities will be collecting old electrical appliances, enabling you to safely dispose of unwanted computers, laptops, keyboards, printers, modems, scanners, photocopiers, fax machines, cell phones, chargers, televisions, VCRs, projectors, video game consoles, portable music or video players, radios, stereos, ovens, microwaves, stoves, refrigerators, washing machines, dryers, cables, fluorescent bulbs and batteries.
The collection locations and dates are as follows:
Guadalajara: Parque Agua Azul, Feb. 8, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Bosque los Colomos, Feb. 9, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Zapopan: Wall-Mart La Estancia, Glorieta Chapalita & Chedraui parking lot on Avila Camacho, Feb. 15 and 16, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Tonala: Parque Ecologico & Plaza Municipal, Feb. 8 and 9, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Tlajomulco: Estacion de Ferrocarril, Plazas Oulet, Soriana Santa Fe & Subestacion de Proteccion Civil, Feb. 22 and 23, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Mexpat
Guadalajara’s monthly Mexpat social gathering takes place Thursday, February 7 at The Temple Bar, Av. Lopez Mateos 1860, in Colonia Americana, a few blocks from Av. Americas.
Mexpat brings together a wide range of expatriates from diverse countries each month to chew the fat and get acquainted with new and old friends.
Temple Bar is a popular Irish-themed pub with a wide selection of national and imported brews. It also serves a good selection of food, including fish and chips.

Bullfights
Heading the bill for the corrida de toros (bullfight) at Guadalajara’s Plaza de Toros Nuevo Progreso, Sunday, February 10, 4:30 p.m., is arguably the greatest rejoneador in the ring today, Spaniard Pablo Hermoso de Mendoza Canton.
The art of rejon, fighting bulls on horseback, is actually older than the traditional variety. It involves a spectacular show of horsemanship, as well as a breathtaking confrontation of man, horse and bull.
High-bred and valuable horses are trained for and specialize in various parts of the bullfighting act, with the horseman using up to five different horses against one bull.
Hermoso de Mendoza, 46, never uses spiked spurs during the act, unlike most others, who often finish the bullfight with their steeds bleeding from deep scratches on their flanks.
Corridos take place every Sunday in February at 4.30 p.m. Performing on February 3 are matadors Rodolfo “El Pana” Rodriguez and Morante de la Puebla.
The bullring is located beside the Estadio Jalisco soccer stadium at Pirineos 1930, just off the Calzada Independencia in Colonia Monumental. Tickets range from 90 to 1,350 pesos and are available from the box office from 11.30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday to Saturday, or from 10 a.m. on Sundays.
