Fashion show
Everyone is invited to a gala dinner/fashion show at which the Liverpool store will present their fall collection. Organized by the Hospital Civil and the Junior League of Guadalajara, the upscale event takes place at Trasloma, across from Starbucks on Avenida Mariano Otero. This event, scheduled for Wednesday, October 29, 7:30 p.m., will benefit the Hospital Civil’s programs for breast cancer survivors. Tickets are 1,000 pesos each and include a full dinner and a raffle with prizes. Come out and enjoy this wonderful event that will help raise money and awareness for an excellent cause.
The Junior League has monthly meetings the third Thursday of each month. At their next meeting on Thursday, October 16, the League is inviting readers who are interested in learning more about the organization. Beer festival
Guadalajara’s annual Festival de Cerveza (Beer Festival) hunkers into gear on Friday, October 17, running through Sunday, October 19 in the esplanade outside the Estadio Omnilife.
Founded in 2008, the popular event is now in its seventh edition and has established itself as the largest beer festival in Latin America.
The festival is a showcase for Mexico’s burgeoning craft beer industry. Attendees will be able to sample dozens of strong and flavorsome cervezas artesanales from across Mexico and abroad.
More than 40 beers will be showcased at the festival, including many that will be unknown to all but a few beer connoisseurs. Look out for the likes of Colombo, Gelingen, Saga, Sayula Chocolate Stout, Calavera, Lucky Buddha, Ruda, Mundo Malta, Brew House, La Blanca, Delirium Tremens, La Bru, Lola, Old Rasputin Russian Stout. Legendaria, Siete Barrios, Cucapa, Tempus, La Belga, La Nacional, Osadia, Patricia, Perla de Occidente, Naipe, Cebada and Mexa. More well-known names will include Fullers, Miller, Paulaner and, of course, Guadalajara’s very own Minerva Beer, one of he festival’s main sponsors.
The festival being a family event, there will be live music and a games area for children, who can be left under adult supervision at the kids club from noon to 7 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
Entertainment will be provided by Technicolor Fabrics on October 17, La Lupita on October 18 and Sonora Kaliente on October 19. There’s also lucha libre (Mexican wrestling) on Sunday afternoon.
Parking is free and free buses will run from El Deposito world beer stores at the Glorieta de los Caballos on Avenida Lopez Mateos and Niños Heroes, on Lopez Cotilla (at Juan Ruiz de Alarcon) and on Avenida Chapultepec. Buses leave every two hours from 2 p.m. until 10 p.m. (except on Sunday when the last bus is at 6 p.m.) and return from the Omiforum at 3, 5, 7 and 9 p.m.
Gates are expected to open around noon and close around midnight on Friday and Saturday (Sunday around 6 p.m.). Admission to the festival is 100 pesos; children aged three to 12 enter for free. For more information visit www.festivaldelacerveza.com.mx.
Pet Expo
The first Expo Bichos y Mascoatas (Bugs & Pets) takes place this weekend at Expo Guadalajara. As well as a range of pet industry expositors, there will be talks on animal welfare and a host of competitions for animals, including one for dogs that most look like their owners.
Zoo deal for children
In a special promotion, kids aged from 3 to 11 can enter the Guadalajara Zoo for free on Saturday, October 11, The deal also includes free entry to the aquarium.
The regular children’s entry fee is 40 pesos; adults pay 66 pesos. With the aquarium included, the price is 58 pesos for children and 105 pesos for adults.
