St Mark’s Advent service

Join the congregation at St. Mark’s Angligan/Episcopal Church on Sunday, December 14, 6 p.m. for a beautiful, hourlong service called “Lessons and Carols.”

The service, based on one that originated at King’s College, Cambridge, England, will feature Advent hymns, villancicos (Mexican carols), and special choral anthems alternating with traditional bible readings, including the nativity. Seasonal refreshments follow the service. Anyone who wants to join the choir for this event should call Debbie Matthew Rodriguez at (33) 3824-4675.

Address correction: The church is at Chichimecas 836 at the corner of Aztecas, a three-minute drive north of Plaza Mexico, and at the end of bus route 33A.

Games are scheduled Friday, December 5, 7 p.m.; Saturday, December 6, 5 p.m. and Sunday, December 7, noon.   The Tomatogrowers of Cuilican come to the Estadio Telmex de Baseball  on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of next week, with all games starting at 7 p.m.  The in-form Charros lead the standings in the second half of the regular season.

Sueterton

If it’s in your mind to perform a generous act at this time of year, donating an item of warm clothing or a blanket to the Sueterton collection would be a good start.  Drop off points are located in all the downtown Tren Ligero (subway) stations, as well as in the foyer of the Teatro Degollado. Make sure the item is either new or only slightly used.  The donations will be distributed mainly in poor Huichol Indian communities in the northern part of Jalisco, where temperatures regularly drop below freezing.

Andares Mall

Guadalajara residents who have never had the chance to see a performance by Los Cantantes del Lago, the premier lakeside choir, should head over to the Andares Mall (Patria and Acueducto) on Friday, December 12.

The Cantantes will take the open-air Andares stage at 6 p.m., to be followed by a new seasonal feature at the mall – a snow storm.
Spectacular “nevadas” will be a permanent show leading up to Christmas, programmed between around 7 p.m. each day.

The Irish Dancing de Mexico Guadalajara group holds its annual anniversary gala on Sunday, December 14 at the Teatro Vivian Blumental (Tomás V. Gómez 125, Colonia Ladrón de Guevara). There will be two performances at noon and 3 p.m.
