Outlet de la Moda at Expo Guadalajara this weekend offers a slew of discounts on brand name clothes, footwear, jewelry and accessories, organizers say. Runs Friday, December 12 through Sunday, December 14, 1 0 a.m. to 8 p.m. Entry free.
Meanwhile at the same venue, Outlet del Mueble offers furniture at discounts between 30 and 70 percent, according to organizers, the Asociación de Fabricantes de Muebles de Jalisco (Jalisco Furniture Manufacturers Association). Same times as above; also with free entry.
Expo Guadalajara is at the corner of Avenida Mariano Otero and Las Rosas.
Cultural Festival
Saturday’s third Festival Cultural Lafayette unites more than 40 art galleries, museums, restaurants, cafes, bars and design stores in an area of the city bordered by avenidas Enrique Díaz de León, México, Niños Héroes and the Minerva Glorieta.
The idea is that each venue provides a unique cultural/artistic experience for visitors throughout the day. All the venues are within easy walking distance of each other.
Maps showing the different locations can be obtained at any of the participating venues. In addition, participants will place red umbrellas outside their establishments to facilitate easy recognition.
Participating museums include the Museo Raul Anguiano, offering a workshop for children aged 6-12 on Spanish artist Jean Miro from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., while the Museo de las Artes is providing a free explanatory tour of the Paraninfo and the Jose Clemente Orozco murals at noon.
An all-day fair of organic products will be up at the Demetria Hotel (La Paz 2219). The Gin Club (Lopez Cotilla 1520B) puts on gin tastings at 5 and 8 p.m.: reserve space at 3615-3986, and Artnoc (Jose Guadalupe Zuno 2129) offers a wine tasting and talk at 7:30 p.m. (there’s a 60-peso fee).
The Travesio Cuatro gallery (La Paz 2207) is giving guided tours of the exhibition “Interiores” by Philadelphia artist Sara Crowner and “Aproximación Oblicua” by Pablo Davila, at 1, 4 and 5 p.m. The store Creativa Botanica (La Paz 2557) hosts a children’s workshop in paper flower making at 11 a.m. and showings of floral accessories from 4-8 p.m. La Escuela Superior de Arquitectura (Libertad 1745) hosts a “tianguis of art and design” from noon to 8 p.m. Meanwhile, the Cafe Paloma (Lopez Cotilla 1855) offers a special Mexican gourmet three-course menu from 8:30 p.m.
Among other businesses participating in the festival are Tiro al Blanco, Bazaar Central, the Universidad de Medios Audiovisuales (Caav), Julia y Renata and Ulm.

Comics convention
Don your capes and masks, for this weekend the Expo Guadalajara (Mariano Otero and Av. las Rosas) will play host to the annual Con Comics convention. Considered the most important comic book, anime and science fiction gig in Mexico, it takes place Saturday, December 13 and Sunday, December 14.
Special guests this year include U.S. actress Katrina Law (Spartacus, Arrow), Olivia Black (Pawn Star Confessions) and Mary Elizabeth McGlynn, award-winning U.S. voice actress known for her extensive English-language dubbing of various anime series.
Also attending the expo will be well-known U.S. cosplayers Ana Mia, Leanna Vamp and D-Piddy.
The celebrities will be available for autograph signing and photographs.
A one-day entry ticket costs 100 pesos, 160 for both days. Children under 120 centimeters enter free, accompanied by an adult.
The expo will be open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on both days.A
Christmas Festival
A taste of Christmas is on tap through December 28 at a 200-year-old home built in Guadalajara by an Irish railroad scion.
The huge garden, stables and house of the “Clover Lawn Mansion” on Avenida La Paz has again been illuminated and decked out with an “Festival Navideño.”
Irish railroad builder John Keeps was the mansion’s builder and original owner. The current owners are Mexican but don’t live in the house. Instead it is used for events such as weddings, Halloween parties, video shoots and the Christmas Expo.
Santa visits, photos, games, workshops, a pastorela, carols and food are all on offer daily from 6 to 11 p.m. Adults pay 70 pesos to enter, children 30 pesos.
