Tequila time in Tlaquepaque
Organizers are expecting around 15,000 visitors to pass through the doors of the Centro Cultural El Refugio in Tlaquepaque this weekend as 40 tequila makers set up shop to showcase their products Friday, September 25 through Sunday, September 27.
The fifth Expo Tequila Tlaquepaque offers tastings, gourmet food, art and photo exhibits, entertainment, Guinness records and more from noon to 11 p.m. daily. Admission is 30 pesos per person.
Flair bartending displays take place from 3 p.m. on each afternoon of the expo. This is the practice of bartenders entertaining clients or audiences with the manipulation of bar tools (e.g. cocktail shakers) and liquor bottles in tricky, dazzling ways.
Professional bartenders will also be competing in the final of tequila cocktail competition on Saturday, from 4-6 p.m.
In the afternoons, area restaurants will be creating gourmet dishes using tequila as a key ingredient.
Also on display will be the biggest tequila bottle ever made, as well as the largest collection of tequila bottles (1,201) – both holders of Guinness world records.
The Centro Cultural El Refugio is at Donato Guerra 160, three blocks from Tlaquepaque Centro.
New model cars on view at Expo Gdl
Anyone looking around for a new car might do no worse than head over to Expo Auto at Expo Guadalajara on September 26 and 27, when most of the auto distributors that operate in metro area Guadalajara will gather under one roof. Organizers say manufacturers will be offering a range of discounts to entice buyers to part with their cash.
Car enthusiasts will also get the chance to drool over new models, as well as peek at the sports cars on show.

Rugby catches on; 3 teams now in city
Rugby is the sporting flavor of the moment with the 2015 World Cup taking place in England set to enthrall fans of American football’s “older sibling” over the next six weeks.
Closer to home, rugby is undergoing an unexpected boom in Mexico. New clubs are springing up around the country, with Guadalajara one of the focal points of the game.
Three metro-area men’s teams – the Rhinos, Lobos and Bisontes – will compete in a seven-team, 12-game regional phase of the top division Liga FMRU 2015-2016, which gets underway this weekend. First up is a local battle between the Rhinos – Guadalajara’s oldest team formed in 2002 – and the Bisontes at the Estadio Tlaquepaque de Rugby on Saturday, September 26, 1 p.m. Upcoming homes games for the Rhinos are on October 10, November 7, November 28, December 12 and January 16. Visitors are more than welcome at this purpose-built stadium, and admission is free to all games. The Rhinos also run female and youth teams. All three Guadalajara teams have Facebook pages and websites with information about their schedules.
City Marathon only 3 weeks away
