American Society news in brief

Tickets are now available for the American Society (Amsoc) Valentine´s Day and board members’ installation luncheon on Thursday, February 11. The Menu Committee are pulling their aprons out of winter storage and preparing a fabulous meal of tossed green salad, smoked ham steaks with pineapple glaze, golden corn casserole, steamed fresh broccoli and Gail’s Italian Creme Cake. Advance ticket sales a must.

The Cooking Club meets Tuesday, January 26. Cook your favorite dish. Set up is at 12:30 p.m.; the eating begins 1 p.m.

Computers for street kids

MAMA, the non-profit organization that supports several hundred children living and working on the streets of Guadalajara, is seeking donations of computers. They can either be new or second-hand in good condition. Their specifications should include an Intel core processor i3 (or later), 4GB Ram or more, and a 500GB hard drive or higher. The equipment can be delivered to MAMA’s shelter at Libertad 1416, Colonia Americana, telephone (33) 3825-2776. The computers will be used to help the children living at the shelter develop their IT skills.

Indian food: New kid on the block 

Fans of spicy Indian food might care to try out India Gate Express, a new eatery that has takes up residence in the Food Truck Park on Niños Heroes at Marsella.  The truck offers eight meat dishes and three vegetarian choices of varying hotness, all served with basmati rice.   India Gate Express is a branch of a restaurant in downtown Vancouver that has been operating for 38 years. They also run an outlet in Puerto Vallarta, at Allende 124.
