Brits celebrate Queen’s 90th with fish & chips

British citizens gathered in Guadalajara Saturday, June 11 to raise a toast to Queen Elizabeth II on her “official” birthday (her actual birthday was April 21).

The luncheon held at the Brasserie restaurant of Steven Southan attracted a respectable number of British residents, a few accompanied by their spouses from Mexico and other countries.

Southan served up a tasty meal of traditional fish and chips, followed by a delicious dessert choice of either apple crumble or trifle.

Simon Cohen gave the toast to the queen on her 90th birthday after attendees sang “God Save the Queen” and listened respectfully to the Mexican national anthem.

After the meal, teams participated in a quiz on the Queen and her life.

Queen Elizabeth surpassed Queen Victoria’s record as the United Kingdom’s longest serving monarch in September 2015.  She acceded to the throne on February 6, 1952 at the age of 25.

Dozens of events and hundreds of street parties were held across the United Kingdom last Saturday in her honor. And for the first time ever, all Commonwealth governors-general gathered at Buckingham Palace for a special lunch hosted by the Queen.

Brasserie is located at Prisciliano Sánchez 1171, Colonia Americana. Open only on Thursday and Friday evenings.
