UVA Student to benefit from bridge club donations

The Lake Chapala Duplicate Bridge Club selected the University Vocational Assistance program (UVA) to be the beneficiary of 7,000 pesos the bridge players raised during their April “charity month.”

The UVA, founded in 1976, is one of the oldest continuously activity charities in the lakeside area. The bridge club’s donation will assist one of the 37 students currently in the program complete their education and professional licensing.

UVA has no fundraisers; the program receives gifts from individuals and groups with 100 percent of donated funds going to pay the expenses to keep the students in university. UVA supporters believe that education is the pathway to both economic and social success and share the wisdom of the UVA motto: “Feed their dreams and watch them grow.”

The Lake Chapala Duplicate Bridge Club is located in Riberas del Pilar between Mom’s Deli and Maskaras Clinic. Sessions are held Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday at 1:15 p.m. The 9 a.m. Friday session includes a short lesson for less experienced players while on Wednesday afternoons the short lesson is followed by supervised play which is overseen by experienced players.
