Culinary Society annual picnic slated for October 26

The Culinary Arts Society of Ajijic (CASA) has announced details for its annual festive Sunday afternoon picnic. CASAFEST will be held Sunday, October 26, from 2 to 5 p.m. in the back patio of the Lake Chapala Society.

The event features a picnic menu, including barbecue ribs, chicken and grilled chorizo with coleslaw, potatoes and baked beans.

To keep the party rocking, one of Lakeside’s most popular groups, The Doo Wops, will be playing music for dancing. There will be a no-host bar, a 50-50 drawing and fun door prizes. Tickets are 200 pesos per person.

CASA began 20 years ago to give members and guests a monthly forum to share foods, learn new preparation techniques, stimulate culinary ideas, meet new people and enjoy the wonderful world of food—all in an atmosphere that encourages creativity and rewards excellence.

CASA gives back to the community through donations of food, money and time to worthwhile Lakeside non-profit organizations. Presently CASA is contributing to the support of two food programs: Operation Feed and Operation Compassion Ministries.

Operation Feed helps to improve the lives of the people of the village of San Juan Cosala, where 100 subsistence food packages are delivered each week. The goal of the group is to help people live productive lives, free from hunger by offering them a “hand up” and not just a “hand out.” Visit the website for more information: www.operationfeedsjc.squarespace.com/weekly-food-despensas.

Operation Compassion Ministries operates a Soup Kitchen in San Antonio Tlayacapan to provide a daily meal to approximately 100 people every Monday through Friday. In addition volunteers deliver hot meals on wheels each day to approximately 50 economically challenged families. Their website is: www.lakechapalacharities.org/soupkitchen.html.

CASA meetings are held on the third Monday of each month at Min Wah restaurant. Two categories, representing a specific type of main dish and dessert, are generally featured for members’ competition. More information about CASA can be found at www.ajijiccasa.org.

CASAFEST tickets can be purchased from Diane Pearl Colecciones, Cugini’s Boutique and Mia’s Boutique. VIP reserved tables of ten (which include two bottles of wine) can be purchased by calling Mary Ann Waite at (376) 766-1436  or Leslie Yanko at (376) 766-2304.
