Needlepushers to join other knitters in GDl celebration

Lake Chapala’s Needlepushers group will be participating in the World Wide Knit in Public Day at downtown Guadalajara’s Museo de la Ciudad on Saturday, June 13.

Hundreds of knitting groups around the world will get together in organized events on this day.

Ten members of the lakeside group will come into the city on a special bus to take part in the event. They plan to knit sweaters for their winter distribution later this year.

One of lakeside’s oldest charitable groups, Needlepushers was formed by Neil James in 1962 to knit items for needy area children.

Last year, the group spent World Wide Knit in Public Day in the gazebo of the Ajijic plaza, creating considerable interest among the local populace.

Among other groups taking part in the June 13 event at the Museo de la Ciudad are Tejidos Urbanos, Tapices K, Walking Souls A.C. Tejido del Barrio, Casa Teodora, La Estambreria de Cucu, Anadelia, Tejercito, Creaciones Flor de Sal, Abrigo Para las Mas Chiquitos and Proyecto Redes,

Everyone is welcome to come and watch the knitters in action and talk to them about their activities.  The event will take place from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

The Museo de la Ciudad is at Calle Independencia 684, one block from Federalismo.
