While ardent supporters of Javier Degollado are hailing Chapala’s new mayor as the savior who will perform marvels to set the municipality on course for a prosperous future, his administration got off to a somewhat rocky start this week.

Although September 19, 1985 will go down as one of the darkest days in modern Mexican history, the emergence of a more organized and effective civil society was a positive legacy of the devastating earthquake that rocked Mexico City on that day, ending the lives of thousands of residents.

With top-notch equestrian teams out for glory and three extraordinary mariachi bands on hand to set a festive beat, spectators attending the final rounds of this year’s Mariachi Festival Charro Championship enjoyed a whole-enchilada Mexican spectacle, with thrills and chills keeping them fixated right down to the last second.  

Most small towns have a well-known dog. Some are Frisbee experts, others are incredible service dogs, and there is always one that happily runs the length of the football field  during every Friday night game. 

Guadalajara is a coy city, and she most certainly has a fine feminine heart.  She doesn’t flaunt her charms loudly or immediately to her visitors.  She reveals herself slowly, and getting to know her requires diligent curiosity and an abundance of time.
