Work suspended on outer city ring road

Is there a jinx on major public works projects in Jalisco? After legal issues recently halted work on the Zapotillo curtain dam in the north-eastern region of the state, now the city’s Macro Libramiento (outer city ring road) finds itself mired in complications, after environmental authorities cast doubts on the sustainability of the project.

On Wednesday, the Federal Attorney for Environmental Protection (Profepa) ordered workers to down tools on several stretches of the 111-kilometer highway that runs to the south of the Guadalajara metropolitan area from the Mexico City autopista to the Nogales highway.
