Rains claim first victim in metro-area Guadalajara

The downpours that battered the metro area on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings inundated more than 1,000 homes and caused almost 300 vehicles to be abandoned in streets that often resembled raging rivers.

Major arteries, including avenidas Patria, Acueducto, Mariano Otero, Lopez Matoes and Lazaro Cardenas, came to a standstill for hours on Tuesday and Wednesday, with water levels in some tunnels reaching a height of 1.50 meters.

The Macrobus on the Calzada Independencia suspended service for two hours Wednesday, stranding hundreds of  passengers.

The Dean Dam overflowed its banks flooding out Avenida Lazaro Cardenas and several surrounding neighborhoods.
