Police crackdown on Guadalajara nightclubs

“The individuals have said that they were threatened by criminal groups that forced them to operate in this way,” said Guadalajara Police Commissioner Salvador Caro Cabrera. “We don’t know if it that is the case, but it will be up to the district attorney to determine the truth.”

Drako Bar was closed for the second time since two people were killed in the venue last year. The bar had illegally reopened after its first closure.

Other nightclubs and bars were closed for failing to meet the necessary security standards, or for operating at unlicensed hours.

Guadalajara Mayor Enrique Alfaro has quickly established a reputation as a regulator, and the sanctioning of nightclubs is the latest in a long series of crackdowns.

With an eye of the governor’s job for 2018, Alfaro has been enthusiastically enforcing legislation affecting street vendors, valet parking attendants and drivers with tinted windows.
