Sources suggest that the owners of the land, Walmart de Mexico are keen to develop the plot for high-rise apartments. Residents of Santa Teresita have submitted proposals to Guadalajara municipal authorities to build a neighborhood park. 

Vehicle restrictions not needed in metro area, official says

Jalisco’s top environmental official has rejected calls for Guadalajara to follow the lead of Mexico City and prohibit a large chunk of the city’s 1.9 million cars from being driven on specific days.

Public readings of ‘Frankenstein’ on World Book Day

Mary Shelley’s “Frankenstein” will be read out aloud in a day-long session to be held in the pedestrian corridor – Rambla Cataluña – that runs alongside the Universidad de Guadalajara (UdG) rectory on World Book Day, Saturday, April 23.  The event will take place from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. 

Hotel chain opens 4th option in metro area

The fourth City Express hotel in the Guadalajara metropolitan area is set for its official inauguration next week. The four-star hotel is situated on the highway to the airport/Chapala at Las Pintitas, just past the El Salto turnoff.  The Guadalajara International Airport is three kilometers away – a five-minute drive to the terminal building.  

Local cops investigated for role in misogynistic music video

Zapopan police are under investigation for appearing in a violent and misogynistic music video by norteño singer Gerardo Ortiz. Three police officers have been temporarily removed from their posts because of their role in the video, which the Mexican government has asked media outlets not to broadcast.

Thousands witness authentic reenactment of Jesus’ final days

Despite temperatures of around 30 degrees Celsius, thousands of spectators turned out to witness the 222nd Judea (Easter Passion Play) held in the Guadalajara suburb of San Martín de las Flores last week.
