Canada encourages Mexican study abroad programs

Mexican students in Guadalajara will be encouraged to expand their knowledge in Canada at an upcoming education fair called “Imagine: ¡Estudiar en Canadá!”

The fair—the only one focused on education sponsored by the Canadian government—will take place Saturday, March 1, and Sunday, March 2, at the Hotel Riu Plaza Guadalajara at Avenida Lopez Mateos 830 near Avenida Lazaro Cardenas.

A national initiative, the fair also has events in Mexico City, Toluca and Leon from February 22 to March 2.

Nationwide, the fair will contain more than 65 institutions from all levels: from primary schools to universities and technological institutions to language programs. Participants will come from a variety of Canadian provinces including Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Ontario, Saskatchewan and Quebec.

More than 265,000 international students choose Canada to study, with about 5,000 of them coming from Mexico, said Francis Uy, the Canadian Consul in Guadalajara.

Science and Technology are popular subjects for Mexican students in Canada as is learning about energy and studying language.
