Tapatios call for peace in Gaza; end to 'genocide'

A small group of pro-Palestine Tapatios demanded an end to the conflict in Gaza during a protest staged outside the Israeli Consulate in Guadalajara’s Colonia Monraz this week.

One of the organizers said the aim of the protest was to promote awareness among the population of Guadalajara about what is happening in the Middle East.   If citizens don’t take the time to learn about the suffering occurring in other parts of the world, they are in danger of becoming “indifferent” and “dehumanized,” she said.

According to Gaza’s Public Works Ministry and Health Ministry, around 40,000 homes have been damaged or destroyed during the month-long conflict with Israel that has displaced nearly half a million Palestinians and killed nearly 1,900 — more than 400 of them children.

Some of the protesters painted their hands red to signify that Israel now has blood in its hands.  Placards read, “Peace in Gaza. Stop the genocide.”
