Despite the continuing fall in international oil prices, the cost of a liter of Magna and Diesel gas will stay the same in February, Mexico’s Treasury Department has announced.
Premium, however, will fall by three centavos to 13.95 pesos. Magna will remain at 13.16 pesos a liter and Diesel at 13.77 pesos.
A Hacienda press release noted that the depreciation in the value of the peso against the dollar is the major reason why pump prices cannot be lowered at this time.
The currency fluctuations have “compensated” for the fall in oil prices, meaning there has not been a big enough drop in the “peso value” of crude to put into effect an automatic reduction in prices at the pumps, the missive said.
