US fugitive nabbed in Puerto Vallarta

Agents of the National Immigration Institute (INM) detained a U.S. fugitive Wednesday who was wanted by the FBI in connection with 23 counts of mail fraud, wire fraud and money laundering,  Arturo Zamora, the Jalisco government’s secretary general, announced Thursday.

Martin Christopher Edwards, 49, a wine executive from Napa Valley, was accused in June 2013 of embezzling 900,000 dollars from his employer, the Wine Tasting Network. On June 17, Edwards failed to show up at his initial appearance at a U.S. District Court in San Francisco and has been on the lam ever since. Zamora said Edwards had been living in Vallarta for several months. He added that a dozen other foreigners have been apprehended in Puerto Vallarta in recent months and deported but did not give out any names.
