Jalisco Philharmonic Orchestra

One of Mexico’s finest mezzosoprano voices, Carla Lopez-Speziale, is the guest artist for the fourth in the Tchaikovsky series. The Jalisco State Choir is led by Sergio Hernandez.

Los Angeles Negros

Chilean/Mexican pop ballad band that first hit the boards in 1968 in concert.

Tuesday recitals

The Degollado Theater opens its doors each Tuesday for the free classical music series Martes de Musica y Opera. No tickets are sold nor is there numbered seating. Just turn up before the performance and grab a seat. The quality is always high, and the theater will often fill up. March 24: Piano recital by Jose Sandoval. Works by Mozart, Paganini, Bach and Rachmaninoff, among others.

Dance recitals

Free dance recitals are held each Wednesday, showcasing talented modern groups from Guadalajara and elsewhere.

Violentango

A debut performance in Guadalajara by Argentine jazz and progressive rock band Violentango. This creative and energetic band incorporates different musical strains into its work, including the tango.  Has appeared at the fan ours U.K festival in Glastonbury.  The gig is part of the ongoing “Alternative Wednesdays” presentations scheduled at this lesser-known venue inside the University of Guadalajara’s Spanish-language teaching school, the Colegio de Español y Cultura Mexicana (formerly CEPE).

Santana & guests

Legendary Jalisco-born rock musician Carlos Santana is accompanied by Californian bands Journey and Counting Crows.

Espacios del viento 

Contemporary dance show based around the natural sounds of wooden musical instruments.

Jalisco Philharmonic Orchestra 

The orchestra performs works by the three finalists in the Jalisco Orchestral Compositions Prize, along with Igor Stravinsky’s “Firebird.” Miguel Salmon del Real is the guest conductor.

Cabaret

The accomplished student performers from the Tec de Monterrey University are sure to give their all in a performance of the classic musical set in pre World War II Berlin that launched the career of Lisa Minelli.

Air Supply

Australian soft rock duo celebrate their 40th anniversary in the music business with a special anniversary concert. Guadalajara fans never seem to tire of this 70s outfit that will no doubt conclude their concert with the classic, “Lost in Love.”
