FIL guest nation Argentina brings four art exhibits to Guadalajara

Running in conjunction with the International Book Fair, which opens at Expo Guadalajara Saturday, November 29, are several art exhibits sponsored by guest nation Argentina. Here’s a brief rundown of what to see.

“Cortázar, para armar.” Museo de las Artes de la Universidad de Guadalajara. A humanist, literary and political tour of the life of famed Argentine writer Julio Cortazar. Until February 22.

“Objetística y Diseño Industrial en la Argentina.” Museo de las Artes de la Universidad de Guadalajara. An exhibit showing the historic elements that have characterized industrial design and objectivism in Argentina over the past seven decades. Until February 22.

“La protesta política: intervenciones críticas del arte en la Argentina.” Instituto Cultural Cabañas. A comprehensive view of the relationship between art and politics in Argentine society between 1890 and 2001.

“Ejercicio plástico de Siqueiros. Tres miradas.” Museo Regional de Guadalajara. In 2003, after years of neglect, Argentina began working on rehabilitating and restoring Mexican artist David Siqueiros’ mural, Plastic Exercise. This exhibition includes 20 photographs of the mural before it was removed from Natalio Botana’s “Los Granados” home in Buenos Aires and rehoused in the Museo de Casa de Gobierno.
