The Akram Khan Dance Company

The penultimate presentations in the May Cultural Festival will surely enthuse local modern dance fans when the 14-year-old Akram Khan Company, one of the foremost innovative dance outfits in the United Kingdom, present the show “Kaash.”

Danced by a strong international cast of performers,  Kaash (the Hindi word for “if only”) continues Khan’s quest to build bridges between the worlds of contemporary dance and the Indian classical dance form Kathak, which traces its origins to the nomadic bards of ancient northern India, known as Kathakars or storytellers.

Khan says Hindu Gods, black holes, Indian time cycles, tablas, creation and destruction were the starting points for this full-length piece, which debuted in 2002.

A milestone in this company’s trajectory was the creation of a section of the London Olympic Games opening ceremony in 2012.

Teatro Degollado, Friday, May 29 & Saturday, May 30, 8:30 p.m.  100-250 pesos.
