Tuesday recitals

The Martes de Música y Ópera series sponsored by the Jalisco Culture Department attracts some truly stellar classical performers and it’s all free!

  Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis.  June 28: Recital by Pedro Velázquez Cardoso (flute) and José Guadalupe López Luévano (guitar). July 5: Santiago Lomelin (piano) and Enrique Mejía (tenor) interpret works by Couperin, Liszt, Mozart, Schubert, Schumann and others. July 12: Alvaro Lárez (violin) and Blandine Tricot (piano) play pieces by Mozart, Wieniawski, Franck, Lárez and Kreisler. July 19:  Operatic classics, plus romantic Mexican tunes with Monserrat Hernández Zuñiga (soprano), Miguel Frausto (tenor), Jorge Luis Godinez (piano) and Salvador Ramos (bass). July 26: Melodies from La Belle Epoque with Laetitia Grimaldi Spitzer (soprano) and Ammiel Bushakevitz (piano).

Marco Parisotto conducts Beethoven’s Symphony No. 2 in D major (Op. 36)  and Symphony No.3 in E flat Major Op.55 ”Eroica.”

Jalisco Philharmonic Orchestra

Guest director Günter Neuhold takes the baton for Beethoven’s Symphony No. 4 in B-flat major, Op. 60 and Symphony No. 5 in C minor, Op. 67.  Sandwiched between the two works will be a performance of Armando Luna’s Sinfonía núm. 2, Homenaje a Posada.

Jazz concert

The New York Jazz All Stars series, sponsored by the Universidad de Guadalajara in conjunction with Jazz at Lincoln Center, presents the Greg Gisbert Quartet. Gisbert, one of the leading trumpeters in the international jazz scene, performs frequently with Buddy Rich, Woody Herman, Gary Burton, the Mingus Epitaph and others.

Jalisco Philharmonic Orchestra

Joining guest U.S. conductor Dorian Wilson are pianists Christine Gerwig and Efrain Gonzalez Ruano.  They will interpret Czech composer Bohuslav Martinu’s Concerto for two pianos and orchestra, sandwiched between two Beethoven concertos: his sixth and eighth

Jalisco Philharmonic Orchestra

Russian pianist Daniil Kharitonov joins JPO director Parisotto for the summer season finale.  Beethoven’s Symphony No. 7 in A major, Op. 92 will conclude the concert, following three more of the German master’s works: Egmont, Op. 84; Piano Concerto No. 5 in E flat (“Emperor”) and Coriolan Overture Op. 62.

Amadeus

A work combining opera, dance and theater based on the life of the brilliant composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.  The production opened in London in 1979, and is being brought to Guadalajara thanks to the 2016 Germany-Mexico Dual Year celebration. Around 40 performers on stage.
