The Martes de Música y Ópera series sponsored by the Jalisco Culture Department attracts some truly stellar classical performers and it’s all free! Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis.
August 30: Cuarteto Nima, all-female string quartet (above). September 13: Tlalipac chamber orchestra with soprano Natalia Ramos, including well-known pieces by Puccini and Rossini. September 20: Recital by pianist Patricia Garcia-Torres. Schubert, Zyman, Debussy, Arturo Márquez and others. September 27: Jalisco Canta, with Joycee Díaz, soprano; Alejandro Vigo, piano. Works by Haendel, Beethoven, Mozart, Bizet, Gershwin and others.

Mariachi galas
As in past years, the International Mariachi Festival stages nightly galas featuring some of the country’s top mariachi bands: Vargas de Tecalitlán, Nuevo Tecalitlán, Sol de América and América de Don Jesús Rodríguez de Hijar. Accompanied by the Jalisco Philharmonic Orchestra, these evenings, while expensive, are emotional experiences and full of color.
