Chapala Modern Arts Festival kicks off July 22

Renowned classical guitarist Francisco Bribiesca will appear as the featured musical performer during the first week of activities for Sincrónico, Chapala’s month-long contemporary arts festival.

After making his international debut in Sydney, Australia in 2004, Bribiesca has wowed audiences in dozens of cities around the globe. The Washington Post has characterized him as “one of Mexico’s top guitarists.” 

Bribiesca will lead a free master class for guitar players Saturday, July 23, 10 a.m., at the Centro Cultural Antigua Presidencia  in Chapala and perform that evening at 7:30 p.m. in Atotonilquillo. He is also scheduled for a chamber music concert Sunday, July 24, noon, at the Auditorio de la Ribera in La Floresta, with admission set at 100 pesos.

Art shows tied into the festival start Friday, July 22, 8 p.m., with an exhibit of paintings by Colombian artist Carlos Cepeda at the Centro Cultural González Gallo. A showing of art works by young talents from lakeside opens July 23, 6 p.m., at the Centro Cultural Antigua Presidencia, the former town hall building. The grand opening of the Auditorio de la Ribera gallery is set for Saturday, July 30, 6 p.m.

Other happenings this month include a concert presented by four choral groups at Centro Cultural Antigua on Saturday, July 23, 8 p.m.; a performance of modern dance at the Centro Cultural Ajijic on Thursday, July 28, 7:30 p.m.; and a concert by a cello and violin ensemble in San Nicolás de Ibarra, Sunday, July 31, 8 p.m. All presentations are free of charge.
