Lakeside Little Theatre

The Lakeside Little Theatre (LLT) is planning two summer offerings in July.  On Monday, July 7 there will be a “Volunteer Expo” coordinated by LLT Production Manager Kathleen Neal.  Then, starting on Wednesday, July 9, there will be a three-week “Actors’ Workshop” coordinated by Roseann Wilshere.

The Volunteer Expo is intended for those who would like to be a crew member or otherwise help backstage.  The free three-hour session will be followed by a theater tour and a chance for participants to visit with department coordinators on the terrace afterwards.  There will be a sign-up sheet at the door, starting at 9.30 a.m.

The Actors’ Workshop will consist of lectures, experiential exercises, scene run-throughs with feedback from the facilitator, and independent work on scenes and rehearsals.  Roseann Wilshere will teach techniques based on the book “Audition” by Michael Shurtleff.  (This book is a must-read for all would-be actors.)

Wilshere worked as an actress, publicist and director in Toronto before becoming artistic director of her own theater, known as Solar Stage.  She was an original member of the Theatreworks Actors Studio which has become very well known for its work in the Michael Shurtleff technique.  She has conducted many classes in this technique for professional actors and directors.

Teams of participants will either choose or be assigned a two-person scene of approximately ten minutes.  After rehearsals the intensive workshop will culminate in on-stage performances for the friends and families of the actors on July 26 and 27.

Preregistration is requested for the Actors’ Workshop – email at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. and enter Preregistration on the Subject line, or call Collette Clavadetscher at 766-5317.

Enrollment will take place from 10-11 a.m. on July 9.  The cost of 150 pesos includes lunch on the first day and LLT membership. Current LLT members pay only 50 pesos.

Photography Classes

Save Wednesdays in July and August for two new Photography and Photoshop courses taught by award-winning photo artist Jill Flyer, who is also an accomplished wedding and portrait photographer.   She will teach four classes of camera basics and composition combined with travel photography (sights, scenes and people portraits).  The classes will be held at at 2 p.m. on consecutive Wednesdays: July 9, 16, 23 and 30.  The cost for all four classes will be 550 pesos.

For those  interested in a follow-up course on photo adjustments, Flyer is giving three classes on Photoshop, also on Wednesdays at 2 p.m. on August 6, 13 and 20.  The first two classes will center on the basic tools of Photoshop and the third will be on getting unusual effects with filters and plug-ins.  The cost of this three-week course is 450 pesos.  To teach Photoshop, Flyer projects the images from her computer onto a large screen so everyone can see what she is doing.  Students can bring their laptops and follow along with the projected image.
