Children Arts Awards

Feria Maestros del Arte sponsors an annual contest for those attending the Children’s Art Program at the Lake Chapala Society (LCS). There were two themes for entries in this year’s contest: drawings of Mexican toys and Michicihualli (the legendary goddess of Lake Chapala).

Contest winners will be announced and prizes awarded on Saturday, October 11, 11 a.m. in the gazebo on the LCS grounds.

The first-prize winner takes home 500 pesos; the young artist in second place receives 300 pesos and the third prize is 200 pesos. The Feria judges also often award two or three other works with an honorary mention award which carries a 100-peso prize.

Each prize winner will receive a certificate of accomplishment and their winning entry will be displayed during the Feria Maestros del Arte, held at the Chapala Yacht Club from November 14 to 16.

Her vibrant and expressive paintings depict various subjects of the life and color of the culture of Mexico, where she presently resides. Her works hang in galleries in Ajijic, Puerto Vallerta, La Manzanilla and San Miguel del Allende.

Master Lecture

The Art Xik Xik Master Lecture Series on Saturday November 8, 5 p.m. will feature popular lakeside mural artist Javier Zaragoza.

Following a career in billboard and animation art in California, Zaragoza returned to Lake ChIxtlahuacan de los Membrillos and the side of the delegation building in Ajijic.

During the November presentation, Zaragoza will explain, in English, “the Ribera of Lake Chapala,” the significant mural depicting the history of Chapala that was unveiled in 2009 at the east edge of the town. He will also display some of his paintings and new works at the reception.

The number of tickets being sold at Diane Pearl Colecciones and the Quetzal Restaurant in Chapala are limited, as this is an intimate encounter and dialogue with a master artist.
