Photo Exhibit

“Recuerdos de Jocotepec,” an exhibition of the photography of Felipe de Jesus Moreno Ibarra, opens on Saturday, October 18, 7 p.m.  in the Studio-Gallery Metzcalli, at Careterra 40 in San Juan Cosala.

 

Castañón on Guitar

Juan Castañón is taking the stage at La Rueda Gallery and Café in San Juan Cosalá on Saturday, October 18,  7:30 p.m.  Castañón will be performing his smooth jazz style with solo guitar. La Rueda is at Porfirio Díaz 120. For more information, visit Improespacio.blogspot.mx.

Piano Performance

Guadalajara pianist Emiliano Galindo, who trained with Russian music professor Anatoly Zatin at the University of Colima, is presenting a concert at the Ajijic Cultural Center on Saturday, October 25, 7 p.m.

Tickets for “México y Europa” are 80 pesos. Half of the proceeds will go toward the building of a theater in the cultural center.

Naked Stage

“November,” David Mamet’s Oval Office satire revealing one day in the life a a beleaguered U.S. commander-in-chief, is the Naked Stage Readers Theater production on Friday, October 24, Saturday, October 25, and Sunday, October 26.

Barbara Clippinger is directing a cast that includes Damyn Young, Diana Rowland, Ed Tasca, Dick Yanko and Graham Miller. With Mamet’s characteristic no-holds-barred style, “November” is a scathingly hilarious take on the state of the United States today and the lengths to which people will go to win.

The Naked Stage performances take place at Rio Bravo 10, behind Daniel’s Restaurant. The box office opens at 3:15 p.m. on the day of performances. The bar opens at 3 p.m. and show time is at 4 p.m. Tickets are available for a donation is 80 pesos. Reservations will be held until ten minutes before the show. Linda Kauffmann

The opening reception of an exhibition and sale of art by award-winning artist Linda Kauffmann will held on Friday, October 24, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Ajijic’s Galeria Sol Mexicano at  Colón 13.  

Several of Kauffmann’s latest works will be unveiled and one of her oil paintings will be raffled to a lucky attendee. The proceeds from the raffle and from any works sold at the opening will be donated to the Catalina Foundation, an educational project that raises funds to support high school and university level students.  

Kauffmann  works in oil, acrylic and watercolor mediums, often applying many techniques to her art. Her vibrant and expressive paintings depict various subjects of the life and color of the culture of Mexico, where she presently resides. Her works hang in galleries in Ajijic, Puerto Vallerta, La Manzanilla and San Miguel del Allende.

Los Cantantes

The ever-popular Showstoppers 9, the annual fall concert of Los Cantantes del Lago, is scheduled for Sunday, November 2, 4 p.m. at St. Andrew’s Anglican Church. This concert features some of the members of Los Cantantes in solos, duets and small groups performing “showstoppers” of all kinds – not just Broadway tunes, but jazz favorites and standards, too.

Ken Yakiwchuk will ably emcee the show this year; area favorite performers and some great new talent, accompanied by Timothy G. Ruff Welch, are preparing to entertain the expected full-house audience.

Tickets at 200 pesos are available from Cantantes members, at the group’s website, loscantantesdellago.com, or from Mia’s Boutique or Diane Pearl Colecciones. The no-host bar will open at 3 p.m. in the garden of St. Andrew’s Anglican Church at Calle San Lucas 19 in Riberas del Pilar.

Murals Unveiled

 

 

 

 

 

Two new murals by local artist Efren Gonzalez will be unveiled by the owners of the Ajijic property at Independencia 59 on Monday, October 20, 6:30 p.m. New to lakeside, the homeowners will introduce the paintings as offerings to the people of Ajijic as repayment for the kindnesses and gracious welcome they have received here. Agua fresca and hors d’oeuvres will be served to those attending, as they view the paintings and enjoy the music by Chuni Medeles.

Jocotepec Art Show

The members of the Lake Chapala Painting Guild are presenting a new art show, “Rhythms of Life,” at the Jocotepec Cultural Center from October 31  through November 20.

The show will be launched with an October 31 cocktail inauguration party from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Cultural Center on the Jocotepec plaza.

Founded in August 2011, the Lake Chapala Painting Guild is a group of artists who remain focused on juried show of paintings and pastels.

Among the artists who will be showing their work in “Rhythms of Life” are Lois Schroff, Maryann Linhart, Marian Decker, Geraldine Classen, Varn, Winnie Hunt, Ina Gieysztor, Carolina Owers, Anita Lee, Cynthia DuBois and Steve Achs.
