American Society New Year Potluck

The American Society of Jalisco (Amsoc) hosts a potluck luncheon on New Year’s Day, Friday, January 1.

All those who would like to spend some time in friendly company enjoying home-prepared dishes are welcome to gather at the society’s headquarters between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.  Amsoc is at Av. San Francisco 3332, Colonia Chapalita.

Members and friends are advised that the regular Thursday luncheon schedule will change over the next two weeks. No lunches will be served on Thursday, December 31 and Thursday, January 7. Amsoc is open from 10 a.m. to 2 p,m. The usual games day will be held on both these days. 

The regular luncheons will resume on Thursday, January 14.

Free Degollado Theater tours

For those who would like to see behind the scenes of Guadalajara’s famed Degollado Theater, free guided torus are being offered on Saturday, January 2; Sunday, January 3; and Tuesday, January 5, between 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.  The theater is situated at the far end of the Plaza de la Liberacion, on Calle Belen.

Aeromar launches flight to Mazatlan, Los Mochis

 Low-cost airline Aeromar has launched a new route from Guadalajara to Mazatlan/Los Mochis. 

Daily flights are offered to the popular beach resort of Mazatlan, with the same flight continuing on to Los Mochis from Mondays to Fridays. Flights to Mazatlan take one hour 25 minutes, and three hours ten minutes to  Los Mochis.  The flight to Los Mochis will be ideal for tourists looking to take the train trip through the Copper Canyon, known colloquially as the “Chepe.” The tourist train leaves Los Mochis for Chihuahua at 6 a.m. on Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays.   

The 15 and a half hour ride passes through some of Mexico’s most spectacular scenery.  For a shorter ride, the trip to the town of Creel is five and a half hours. 

The train leaves Chihuahua for Los Mochis at 6 a.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays, stopping in Creel at 3:44 p.m.
