Hey, Sr. Governor, want to take a peek my Olympic medal?
The 14 athletes from Jalisco who participated in the Rio Olympics have received a total of 1.3 million pesos from the Jalisco government as an incentive to keep their efforts going through to Tokyo 2020.
Nine were present at a meeting with Governor Aristoteles Sandoval this week, when German Sanchez (above left) showed off the silver medal he won in the 10-meter platform diving event. Sanchez was the major benefactor, receiving 830,000 pesos, while the rest – none of whom won medals – took home 20,000 pesos each.
US musicians to give classes
As well as giving concerts at lakeside and in Guadalajara next week (see pages 17 and 20), visiting pianist David Fung and countertenor Daniel Moody, both from the United States, will give masterclasses at the Palacio de la Cultura y la Comunicación (Palcco). The classes cost 500 pesos for musicians, but the general public is free to attend and sit in the audience and watch.
The classes take place from 5-8 p.m. on Tuesday, September 13 (Moody), Thursday, September 15 (Fung and Moody) and Friday, September 16 (Moody). The cost of the classes includes free entry to both Moody and Fung’s concerts in Guadalajara on September 12 and 19.
