Language teacher to talk at Amsoc
Sophia Davis, an experienced teacher of English and Spanish, will give a presentation about her effective online teaching technique, involving meditation/hypnosis, at the American Society on Thursday, September 29, 11 a.m.
Davis will describe how her method overcomes fears and inhibitions that sabotage one’s ability to speak another language.
Healthy lifestyles at Expo Prana
Anyone interested in learning more about the benefits of a healthy and harmonious lifestyle should head over to Expo Prana, scheduled for its second year at the Centro de Amistad Internacional on Saturday, October 1 and Sunday, October 2.
As well as sales booths offering natural products and services designed for healthy living, the festival offers holistic therapies, talks and conferences on diverse themes connected to personal wellbeing, yoga classes, music and dance performances, a gastronomic pavilion, a children’s area, and more. Visitors will find plenty of gift ideas, as well as clothes, organizers say.
A one-day ticket, with access to all conferences, classes, workshops, specialists areas and ancillary events costs 150 pesos (200 pesos for two days). General entry is 35 pesos for one day (50 pesos for two days).
There will be a one-hour meditation session for “world peace” on Sunday, October 2, 1 p.m. And for each visitor to Expo Prana, organizers promise to plant a tree.

‘We Are All Migrants’
Todos Somos Migrantes (We Are All Migrants) is the title of an exhibit featuring the 50 best posters from the 2016 “Escucha mi Voz” competition, which this year focused on the theme of migration.
The posters went on display last week at the Presidencia Municipal de Zapopan (city hall) and will stay up until October 31.
More than 1,100 entries were received from 48 countries and the winners were selected by an international jury of well-known graphic designers. Among the sponsors of the contest are the U.S. Consulate General in Guadalajara and the local FM4 Paso Libre support group for migrants passing through the city.
At a press conference held last week, FM4 spokesperson Janet Valverde said the group’s shelter had attended to around 550 migrants in August, the majority of them young men from Central America, but also women and children.
After Zapopan, the traveling exhibition will move to other cities in Mexico.

Via RecreActiva’s 12th birthday
The Sunday Via RecreActiva activity celebrates its 12th anniversary September 25 with a free concert by the Orquesta Sinfionica del Valle in the Parque Revolucion (Federalismo and Juarez) at 11 a.m. Thousands of cyclists, joggers, walkers and skateboarders take advantage of miles of traffic-free streets in the metro area between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. each Sunday.
