All aboard for train station birthday

Festivities linked to the 95th birthday of the Chapala train station (now the Centro Cultural González Gallo) get rolling on Thursday, March 26, 6 p.m., with the opening of “Vamos Pasajeros al Tren” and the formal re-inauguration of the center’s permanent display on the history of the short-lived Guadalajara-Chapala railway line.

The temporary exhibit examining the glory days of Mexico railway travel has been brought in from the National Railway Museum in Puebla. A feature of the celebration will be a performance by the Jalisco State Choir at 7 p.m.

The actual anniversary of the debut of the Guadalajara-Chapala  railroad will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 8, starting at 6 p.m. The birthday party will feature an appearance by the Orquesta Tìpicia de Chapala, along with an impromptu entertainment program involving any local musicians who wish to participate.

Visitors will also have a chance to see the miniature railway model in the garden along with a special display put on by model train buffs.

Folks planning to attend are encouraged to bring their own food and drinks and some extra snacks to share in a potluck buffet.

Admission on both occasions is open to the public free of charge.
