April 19 family fair benefits kids facing major health challenges

Caring for children with physical disabilities and serious health conditions is a costly and demanding endeavor for underprivileged families. That is why the non-profit Programa Pro Niños Incapacitados del Lago, A.C. is a godsend to the parents of more than 140 lakeside youngsters who receive financial support to cover medical bills, therapeutic treatments, prostheses, mobility equipment, transportation costs and other expenditures.

Moms and dads of the kids who benefit from Niños Incapacitados will show their appreciation and pay it forward with a fun-filled family fair on Sunday, April 19, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., at Chapala’s Cristiania Park. All proceeds go into the Niños Incapacitados kitty.

Visitors attending the event will find an assortment of home-cooked dishes, cool drinks to wet the whistle and tempting bakery goods to satisfy the sweet tooth. Bargain hunters will discover deals on gently used clothing, household appliances, knickknacks and other treasures at the big white elephant sale.

This year, the annual Niños parent-organized Kermesse will feature a fantastic entertainment program put together by lakeside talent scout and singer Felipe Morales, a.k.a. El Chapalense. Showtime starts at noon, with featured performances by TV and radio personality Freddy Garcia, a comedian and impersonator; singing clown and balloon figure master Yougurin; and Los Hijos de Maria Felix, a four-man combo of young musicians standing out for their innovative cumbia-rock repertoire.

The Chapala municipal government is backing the fair by contributing all entrance fees to the park, pool area and rest room facilities to the cause.

Don’t miss a perfect opportunity to while away a lazy off-season Sunday, mix in with the locals and pitch in for a noble cause.

Three-year old Tadeo, who suffers from Freeman–Sheldon syndrome, is among the 140 lakeside children receiving support from the Niños Incapacitados program. His grateful mom Iliana Aceves Meía will pitch in with other parents paying it forward this Sunday at the annual family fair fund-raiser. Entertainers lined up for the event include Felipe Morales, Yogurín, Freddy Garcia (standing at far left and right) and the cumbia-rock quartet Los Hijos de María Félix(squatting up front).
