The Hotel Perico in Ajijic will be the official site for the first open dog agility competition to be held in Mexico on Saturday and Sunday, May 23 and 24.

According to a press release issued by organizers, competitors will be coming “from across Mexico to use the event as a training opportunity for their dogs as they prepare for the USDAA competitions throughout the year.”

The winning contestant will hold the title of Agility Dog of the Year for Mexico, the release says.

The event is organized through Agility Jalisco, Western Agility Organization, with participants from clubs in Jalisco, Aguascalientes and Toluca.

The competition includes three height categories: small, medium and large.  There will be three courses on each of the two days. Saturday features Jumpers, Standard and the Tunnel Cup, and Sunday Team Jumpers, Team Standard and the Tunnel Cup Final.

The competition is not is not an official Fédération Cynologique Internationale (FCI) event and is open to all dog handlers. 

Competition begins 9:30 a.m. on each day and is expected to run until 5 p.m.

Spectators are welcome and there is no entry fee.  Parking will cost 20 pesos.  Those attending are advised to bring their own chairs as only a limited number will be available from the hotel.

Hotel Perico will serve a BBQ menu starting at 1  p.m. on both days.  Beverages will also be available for purchase.
