Weekly Worship – May 21, 2016

Lake Chapala Baptist

Says Brother Bob Hendrick: “In the letter to the Hebrews, there is a list of people God considered ‘faithful.’ Knowing the stories of some of them, it seems that God’s standard is pretty low. Among those listed are Gideon, Barak, Samson and Jephthah. Gideon did not want to lead God’s army and tested God over and over. Barak would not go to battle unless a woman, Deborah, went with him. Samson? Well, you remember Delilah, and she wasn’t his first bad decision. Jephthah made a rash promise to God that he had to keep. I’ll not put the scripture references; you can ‘Google’ the names. What you will find is, God uses and brags on people as common as you and I. Our usefulness depends on Him, not on us.”

The Lake Chapala Baptist Church celebrates worship service each Sunday, 11 a.m. at Santa Margarita 147 in Riberas del Pilar.

Lakeside Presbyterian

On Sunday, May 22, in the third message in his “Worship” sermon series, Pastor Ross Arnold will consider the meaning and significance of the sacraments in Christian worship.
Are the sacraments – baptism and communion – the primary means of grace in a Christian’s life, or are they just symbols, or something in between?  How do different churches view them, why is there disagreement about how many sacraments there are, and what is their proper place in Christian worship?  Pastor Arnold will address all this and more.

Lakeside Presbyterian Church meets in their new church building in Riberas del Pilar. Turn towards the lake at Mom’s Restaurant; the church is two blocks down on the right.  English-language services are at 10 a.m. and Spanish-language services at noon.  Everyone is welcome.

St. Andrew's Anglican

Sunday after Sunday, Christian worship is centered around a story, an event, or a person. Only once each year is the focus on a doctrine. That’s the case this week, the Church’s annual celebration of Trinity Sunday, May 22. Deacon Don Snell’s sermon, “The Indwelling Trinity,” reflects on what it means that the one God is experienced in three different ways, or “persons” — as Creator, Savior, and Companion.

The children’s bilingual Sunday School begins at 9:45 a.m., the worship service begins at 10 a.m. and a coffee hour in the garden following the service.

Every Sunday, the feeding programs supported by St. Andrew’s welcome donations of non-perishable food items, left in the baskets by the church doors.

St. Andrew’s is at Calle San Lucas 19, a block south of the Carretera in Riberas del Pilar.

Little Chapel

The guest speaker for the Little Chapel by the Lake on Sunday, May 22 will be Paul F. Allen, who will present “Spirit, Soul and Body.”  Praise and Worship service starts at 11:15 a.m. after a joint fellowship time (with Christ Church) with coffee and refreshments from 10:35 -11:10 a.m.

On Wednesday, June 1, the Little Chapel will show the 1973 drama “Woodlawn” in the fellowship hall at 5 p.m.  Based on the events happening in the south in the early 1970’s, when school integration was still in its infancy, this film shows what happened to one high school that was different.

On Sundays, May 29 and June 5, the guest speaker will be Frank Fagan, who will be returning to his subject of “Three Stages of the Christian Life.”

The Little Chapel is located on the Ajijic-Chapala highway in Chula Vista, next to the golf course.

Unitarians

On Sunday, May 22 at the Lake Chapala Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, Fred Harland speaks on the second principle, “Justice, equity and compassion in human relations.” His topic is

“Giving Life the Shape of Justice: A Unitarian Perspective.” Norman Woods is the service leader.

The Unitarians have moved. They now meet 10:30 a.m. at their new facility at Hidalgo 261, opposite the bell tower, on the north side of the Carretera in Riberas del Pilar.

New Hope Christian

The non-denominational congregation of the New Hope Christian Fellowship will continue with its regularly scheduled worship service on Sunday May 22, 11 a.m. in the upper room of the

Presbyterian church. Refreshments will be available for the early arrivals prior to the service.

The service will include hymns of praise, prayers of thanksgiving and petitions to God.  As part of the service, Pastor Gene Raymer will deliver a message titled “Recognizing A Wicked and Evil Heart.”

“The Scriptures talk about ‘wolves in sheep’s clothing,’” says the pastor, “We want to expose some of the ways to distinguish between those ‘sheep’ and the true servants of God.”
New Hope Christian Fellowship seeks to model itself after the first century Christian Church and warmly welcomes all believers in Christ. For more information, call the pastor at 766-3435 or (333) 724-6179.

Christ Church Episcopal

Christ Church Episcopal will observe the First Sunday after Pentecost, the Feast of the Most Holy Trinity, by celebrating The Holy Eucharist Rite Two on Sunday, May 22, 9:30 a.m. at the Little Chapel by the Lake, located at Carretera 10 in Chula Vista.

Fr. Danny Borkowski will preside, and the Rev. Robbin Del Nagro, a new deacon in the Diocese of the West but highly experienced in pastoral ministry, will function as the liturgical deacon and give a message with the theme “The Divine Dance of the Trinity,” based on John 16:12-15.

The congregations of Christ Church Episcopal and Little Chapel share a common fellowship time between their two services, from about 10:35 to 11:10 a.m.
A Dutch-treat brunch will be held at about 11:30 a.m. at Roberto’s restaurant for those who want to join Del Nagro and her husband Peter. On Wednesday, May 25, the Christ Church Lakeside Music Outreach will join Lakeside Singers at OHANA’s assisted living center in San Juan Cosala at 4:30 p.m. The group will then gather at Viva Mexico for dinner at about 6 p.m.

On Sunday, May 29, Christ Church Episcopal will take their church-in-a-box to La Sagrada Familia mission in Mazamitla for a joint service at noon (in Spanish).  Those who wish to join in will meet at Farmacia Guadalajara in Ajijic. The group will take food that goes with fried chicken. If you want to go and need a ride, notify Kay Borkowski at the e-mail address given above.

San Andres English

Fr. Basil G. Royston, D. Min. will offer the homily “Glory To The Father, The Son, And The Holy Spirit” at the English-language service at San Andres Catholic Church on Sunday, May 22.

He says: “The Spirit glorifies the Son of the eternal Father, and today we in this Spirit give glory to God, for the love of God has been poured into our hearts by the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.”

San Andres is located at the corner of Ramon Corona and Parroquia, one block from the Ajijic main plaza.
