Weekly Worship - October 15, 2016

Abundant Life Church

Abundant Life Church will celebrate a special night of worship and praise on Saturday, October 15, 6 p.m.

This night will include testimonies, special scripture readings and plenty of worship and praise in a bilingual service. All are welcome and will be blessed by the presence of the Holy Spirit.

Sunday, October 16, 10 a.m. Pastor Gary Neighbor will focus attention on the need for the church to be in unity even when it congregates in different places and has different ways of thinking and acting.

Abundant Life Church is affiliated with the Assemblies of God of Mexico and has services for everyone.  Weekly English-language worship service is held each Sunday, 10 a.m. and Bible study Wednesday, 3 p.m. Spanish-language services are Sunday, noon. Bible studies are on Wednesday at 6:45 p.m.

Abundant Life Church is located at Carretera Chapala-Jocotepec 140 in San Antonio Tlayacapan, just a block from SuperLake. For more information call the pastor at (331)417-7038.

Lakeside Baptists

Says Brother Bob Hendrick says: “The Bible says that man’s earthly life is like smoke. Apparently some folks have taken that to mean that they are supposed to be irritating. But it really means life is short, so take care of business while you can. Winston Churchill said, ‘If you are going through hell, keep going.’ You do not have to settle for hell or in Hell. Jesus said, ‘I have come that you might have life …’ And he said, ‘I go to prepare a place for you …’ We live here in this tropical paradise and wonder why everyone doesn’t when it is so easy to find and so accessible. I wonder the same thing about Heaven. Why would anyone waste the wisp of time he has, settling in hell (and for Hell) instead of following the One who offers life and Heaven? Keep going.”

Hendrick will give the sermon at this Sunday’s 11 a.m. worship service at the Lake Chapala Baptist Church, at Santa Margarita 147 in Riberas del Pilar.

Little Chapel by the Lake

Saturday, October 15, from 2-4 p.m., the Little Chapel by the Lake will host a party and comida for all those who would like to meet Pastor Armstrong and his wife Dawn.

Sunday, October 16, Pastor Armstrong will be speaking on “Flying Lessons,” based on Jeremiah. 29:10-14 and Rom. 8:2. He will take a look at how a loving God can cause even the most heartbreaking events in our lives to bring about beautiful changes.

The Little Chapel by the Lake is located in Chula Vista at Carretera Chapala-Ajijic 10. Worship service is at 11:30 a.m. and a fellowship time with coffee and snacks is held from 11 to 11:30 a.m. For more information, call 766-2538 or 332-186-0417 (cell).

Christ Church Episcopal

Christ Church Episcopal, a congregation of the Anglican Church of Mexico, will observe the 22nd Sunday after Pentecost by celebrating the Holy Eucharist Sunday, October 16, 9:30 a.m. at the Little Chapel by the Lake. Fr. Danny Borkowski will preside, and give a message with the theme “Justice” based on Luke 18:1-8.

The congregations of Christ Church Episcopal and the Little Chapel share a common fellowship time between their two services, from about 10:35 to 11:25 a.m.

Christ Church sponsors a Bible Study Tuesdays, 2 p.m. Join them as they tackle a new Bible book — get in at the beginning. Call Fr. Borkowski (766-2495) for the venue.

The Christ Church Episcopal lunch bunch meets Sunday, October 16, 11:30 a.m. at Lake Taco next to the car wash just above Walmart on the libramiento.

Lakeside Presbyterian

After his recent series of sermons on the Gifts of the Holy Spirit, Pastor Ross Arnold will begin a series on the Fruit of the Holy Spirit. But while Scripture is clear that all Christians will NOT have all the gifts of the Spirit, we are ALL supposed to bear all the fruit of the Spirit. What are these fruit? How do we get them? What should we do if we don’t see evidence of them in our lives? For answers to these and other questions, everyone is invited to English-language worship at 10 a.m. at Lakeside Presbyterian Church.

For those interested in going deeper into scripture, Lakeside Presbyterian offers an interactive Bible study every Friday morning at 9:45 a.m. They also will begin two new classes of the Lakeside Institute of Theology this month. These eight-week courses are Old Testament Survey, held from 1 to 3 p.m. every Friday, beginning October 21 and New Testament Survey, held from 1 to 3 p.m. every Saturday, beginning October 22. For more details, visit www.LITChapala.org.

Lakeside Presbyterian Church and the Lakeside Institute of Theology meet at San Jorge 250 in Riberas del Pilar. Turn toward the lake at Mom’s Restaurant and the church is two blocks down on the right. English-language services begin at 10 a.m. and Spanish-language services are at 9 a.m. and noon. Everyone is welcome.

New Hope Christian

The non-denominational congregation of New Hope Christian Fellowship will meet Sunday, October 16, 11:30 a.m. Along with hymns and prayers, the congregation will hear a message titled “We Are the World.” The reverend points out that there are many similarities between the creation of the earth and our own lives as Christians.  “Whether you believe the Earth was formed in six days or six million years, the important part is that God did it,” says pastor Gene Raymer. “And it was that same God who took our lives of darkness and chaos and made them into something wonderful.”

The service will be followed by a fellowship meal at a local restaurant.

New Hope Christian Fellowship emphasizes the common beliefs of all Christians void of denominational interpretations and practices. They practice only two sacraments; open communion and baptism and meet at the second story of the Lakeside Presbyterian Church located at San Jorge 250 in Riberas del Pilar. Anyone who believes in the Trinity is welcome. For more information about the congregation, contact pastor Raymer at (376)766-3435.

St. Andrew’s Anglican

It is often easier to give up faith than to give in to it. Sunday, October 16, at St. Andrew’s Anglican Church, the Rev. Robbin Del Nagro’s sermon, “A Faith That Persists,” is based on Jesus’s parable of the widow who did not give up on her plea for justice, and the judge who granted her request because her persistence wore him down. Worship begins at 10 a.m., and the bilingual children’s Sunday School starts at 9:45. A coffee hour time of fellowship and welcome, follows the service.

If you haven’t signed up for the six-week Grief and Loss series of classes that Rev. Del Nagro is leading on Wednesdays at noon at the church, you can still attend. Notify the church if you plan to attend so there will be enough materials.

The Harvest Comida, a Thanksgiving feast, will be held October 29.  The social hour will begin at 1 p.m. and the meal will be at 2 p.m.

Every Sunday, the feeding programs supported by St. Andrew’s welcome donations of non-perishable food items. Boxed milk and empty cardboard egg cartons are especially welcome, in addition to rice, beans, pasta, oil, and salt.

When you want to get rid of something, anything, don’t forget St. Andrew’s resale shop, Todo Bueno. Every donation or consignment benefits the St. Andrew’s Outreach ministry. Whether it’s clothing, kitchenware, electronics, furniture, appliances, books or collectibles, your trash is someone else’s treasure and bringing it to Todo Bueno enables St. Andrew’s to support a multitude of local charities. Todo Bueno is on the Carretera next to S&S Auto in Riberas del Pilar. Hours are from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

St. Andrew’s is at Calle San Lucas 19, a block south of the Carretera in Riberas del Pilar.
