Parque Metropolitano to open jumbo-size canine playground

The Parque Metropolitano on the western outskirts of the Guadalajara metro area is to allocate a sizable chunk of its grounds as a dedicated playground for dogs.

The 2.5-hectare Metro Can Park is expected to be the largest of its kind in Mexico and will provide an ideal place for dog owners to let their pooches run freely off-leash, work out and socialize with other dogs.

The playground will be packed with a full range of agility equipment, with each activity featuring a QR code that can be read by a smartphone or other device to show a video on how it should be correctly used by the dog.

The project is being undertaken by park authorities along with the pet food company Gran Can.  The firm has promised to spend one million pesos in equipping the park, as well as provide a sturdy perimeter fence made from recycled plastic. The park’s workers will be responsible for daily maintenance of the site.

As well as feeding zones and benches, the dog park will feature two small lakes.

A large-format steel sculpture of a Boxer breed dog is also planned.

The park’s management expect the new activity to open in the third week of August.

Meanwhile, another park exclusively for the use of pets opened this week at the intersection of Circunvalación and Enrique Díaz de León in Guadalajara.  This is the third park to be inaugurated in the space of two months as part of the Red Parque Caninos project led by Roberto Mercado. The others are in the Tabachines and La Calma neighborhoods.
