State Choir demand February wages

Members of the Jalisco State Choir ambushed Governor Aristoteles Sandoval following an  event last week to ask him why their salaries are always paid late in February.

The state government has consistently failed to pay the singers’ wages on time each February for the past 12 years, say members of the 43-strong chorus.

The governor and his wife had been attending an event at Guadalajara’s Foro de Arte y Cultura, in which the State Choir were involved.

In addition, the delegation of choir members asked the governor to intervene and raise their salaries, currently around 6,000 pesos a month, which they say have been at the same level for 12 years.
