The 30 stations housing 300 bikes are located in a 221-hectare zone centered around the large Plaza de las Americas, flanked by the impressive Basilica de Zapopan and municipal palace.
Local authorities apologized for the lack of publicity surrounding the launch of the Zapopan program but said their hands were tied due to restrictions on “municipal propaganda” enforced during the election campaign.
Anyone who has signed up for the Guadalajara MiBici program is also entitled to use the bikes in Zapopan.
The next stage of the project will see 120 bike stations installed in Arcos Vallarta, Mezquitan, Chapalita, Tlaquepaque, and Corredor Atlas.
