New website bangs drum for city

All those interested in knowing more about Guadalajara, as well as making reservations, might wish to take a peek at new internet/smartphone/tablet platform launched this week by the Guadalajara Metropolitan Area Tourism Trust (fideicomiso).

The site, guadalajaramidestino.com, does not have an English translation as yet, but is easily understandable, even for those with limited Spanish.  Relying heavily on images, the site lists attractions; where to eat, drink, stay and shop; medical services; cultural events; exchange houses; diplomatic missions, and more. Hotel, plane and bus reservations may be completed on the site and there is a link to Ticketmaster. A separate section is devoted to conventions held in the city, and questions can be forwarded to site managers.

According to Gustavo Staufert, director of promotions at the Guadalajara Visitors and Conventions Bureau, the site is modeled on others in cities such as Vienna, Sydney and London, and is the first of its kind in Mexico. He said the site has been more than a year in development.
